The Farm
This is a family run business set in the rolling landscape of Irish countryside. Situated on the head waters of one of Ireland’s best salmon rivers, the company produces the finest quality European perch.The farmer has engaged Lynn Aquaculture Ltd to assist them in the development of the project. Following a visit to a number of different fish farms including Lucas Perch in Nancy, France they have developed a state of the art recirculation facility at their site.
The company is dedicated to producing fish using eco friendly methods, ensuring that only the finest and tastiest perch reach the customer.
The Product
The freshwater Eurasian Perch (Perca fluviatilis) is a novelty species to the aquaculture industry. Eurasian Perch is a small freshwater fish with good growth rate. It has a slightly oval round shape, being longer than higher. It has 2 distinctive dorsal fins with in the first taller one 14-20 spines. Perch has naturally 5 to 9 vertical dark bands over the body, is brown-green in color on the back and much lighter towards the belly and has orange-red colored fin tips. It is a carnivorous, piscivorous fish that lives in slow moving rivers and lakes and tolerates moderate climate conditions.
Perch is family of the Percidae (amongst others: Yellow Perch, Walleye, Zander and Pike Perch) and belongs to the order of the Perciformes (such as: Gilt head Seabream, European Seabass and Nile Perch)
Our Irish bread Perch produces nice white fillets with a lightly sweet, delicate taste and has firm flesh.
